Suspect Arrested Days After 11-Year-Old Boy Killed In Maryland Hit-And-Run Crash, Police Say

Days after a hit-and-run claimed the life of 11-year-old Mesiah Lafayette, police have arrested the man accused of leaving the scene of the deadly crash in Elkton.

Nestor La Guillen Parra, 31, was apprehended on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Wilmington, Delaware, by the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force as he was waiting to hitch a ride to Georgia, then Mexico when he was arrested, officials said.

The fatal incident occurred on Saturday evening, Nov. 16, at the intersection of Elkton Road and Belle Hill Road, where Parra is accused of striking Lafayette and fleeing the scene.

“This arrest would not have been possible without the assistance and cooperation of our community members,” Elkton Police officials said in a statement. “We are extremely grateful to everyone who reached out to us in any way.”

The department also thanked the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force for their support in tracking down Parra, who has been extradited to Elkton.

Parra is being held without bond at the Cecil County Detention Center, where he faces these charges:

  • Criminally negligent manslaughter by vehicle;
  • Negligent manslaughter by vehicle;
  • Involuntary manslaughter;
  • Numerous driving and traffic-related offenses.
